Bank Exam Speed Maths
Page 3: Squares & Cubes Shortcuts
1. Squares (Important Concepts)
Square: Number × Number
Example: 12² = 144
Tip: Memorize squares from 1 to 30 for fast calculation.
2. Square Shortcut (Near Base Method)
Formula: (a + b)² = a² + 2ab + b²
Example 1: 49²
= (50 - 1)² = 2500 - 100 + 1 = 2401
= (50 - 1)² = 2500 - 100 + 1 = 2401
Example 2: 101²
= (100 + 1)² = 10000 + 200 + 1 = 10201
= (100 + 1)² = 10000 + 200 + 1 = 10201
3. Special Square Tricks
(a - b)² = a² - 2ab + b²
Example: 98²
= (100 - 2)² = 10000 - 400 + 4 = 9604
= (100 - 2)² = 10000 - 400 + 4 = 9604
Tip: Use base 100 or 50 for faster calculations.
4. Cubes (Important Concepts)
Cube: Number × Number × Number
Example: 5³ = 125
Tip: Memorize cubes from 1 to 20.
5. Cube Shortcut (Near Base)
Formula: (a + b)³ = a³ + 3a²b + 3ab² + b³
Example: 11³
= (10 + 1)³ = 1000 + 300 + 30 + 1 = 1331
= (10 + 1)³ = 1000 + 300 + 30 + 1 = 1331
6. Unit Digit Trick for Cubes
1³ → 1
2³ → 8
3³ → 7
4³ → 4
5³ → 5
6³ → 6
7³ → 3
8³ → 2
9³ → 9
Example: Unit digit of 23³ → 3³ → 7
