1. Percentage Basics
Percentage: Value per 100
Formula: (Value / Total) × 100
Example: (25 / 100) × 100 = 25%
2. Fraction to Percentage (Must Memorize)
1/2 = 50%
1/3 = 33.33%
1/4 = 25%
1/5 = 20%
1/8 = 12.5%
1/10 = 10%
Tip: Memorizing these saves a lot of time in exams.
3. Percentage to Fraction
50% = 1/2
25% = 1/4
20% = 1/5
12.5% = 1/8
Example: 75% = 3/4
4. Increase & Decrease Tricks
Increase: New Value = Original × (1 + %/100)
Decrease: New Value = Original × (1 - %/100)
Example: 100 increased by 20% = 100 × 1.2 = 120
Example: 100 decreased by 20% = 100 × 0.8 = 80
5. Successive Percentage Shortcut
Formula: a + b + (ab / 100)
Example: 20% + 30%
= 20 + 30 + (20×30)/100 = 50 + 6 = 56%
= 20 + 30 + (20×30)/100 = 50 + 6 = 56%
Tip: Very important for Profit & Loss and Data Interpretation.
6. Fast Percentage Calculation
Example: 25% of 200
→ 1/4 × 200 = 50
Example: 10% of 350 = 35
7. Practice Questions
1. 20% of 150 = ?
2. 75% of 200 = ?
3. 100 increased by 15% = ?
4. 500 decreased by 10% = ?
5. Successive increase of 10% and 20% = ?
