Bank Exam Speed Maths
Page 2: Simplification (BODMAS & Approximation Tricks)
1. BODMAS Rule (Priority Order)
B → Brackets
O → Orders (Powers & Roots)
D → Division
M → Multiplication
A → Addition
S → Subtraction
Tip: Solve step-by-step in this exact order to avoid mistakes.
2. Example (Step-by-Step)
Question: 20 + 5 × 4
Solution: 5 × 4 = 20 → 20 + 20 = 40
Answer: 40
3. Approximation Tricks (Fast Calculation)
Rule: Round numbers to nearest easy value
Example: 498 + 203 ≈ 500 + 200 = 700
Example: 49 × 19 ≈ 50 × 20 = 1000
Use approximation when options are far apart.
4. Square Shortcut (Near Base Method)
Formula: (a + b)² = a² + 2ab + b²
Example: 49²
= (50 - 1)² = 2500 - 100 + 1 = 2401
= (50 - 1)² = 2500 - 100 + 1 = 2401
5. Fast Multiplication Trick
Example: 25 × 16
→ 25 × 16 = (25 × 8) × 2 = 200 × 2 = 400
Tip: Break numbers into easy parts.
6. Practice Questions
1. 15 + 6 × 5 = ?
2. 48 × 19 ≈ ?
3. 99² = ?
4. 250 ÷ 5 × 2 = ?
5. 497 + 302 ≈ ?
