Percentage is the base of many topics in bank exams. Mastering percentage improves speed in DI, Profit & Loss, and Interest.
1. Basic Concept
Percentage means per hundred.
x% = x / 100
Example: 25% = 25/100 = 1/4
2. Important Fraction to Percentage
- 1/2 = 50%
- 1/3 = 33.33%
- 1/4 = 25%
- 1/5 = 20%
- 1/8 = 12.5%
3. Percentage Increase/Decrease
Increase % = (Increase / Original) × 100
Example:
100 → 120
Increase = 20 → 20%
4. Successive Percentage Trick
Net Change = a + b + (ab / 100)
Example:
+10% and +20%
= 10 + 20 + (10×20/100) = 32%
This is a high-level shortcut used in exams
5. Reverse Percentage
If value increases by x%, divide by (100 + x)
Example: 120 after 20% increase → Original = 120 / 1.2 = 100
6. Fast Percentage Tricks
- 10% → divide by 10
- 5% → half of 10%
- 1% → divide by 100
- 25% → divide by 4
