Syllogism – Direct Rules and No Diagram Tricks

Solve syllogism questions quickly using direct rules without drawing diagrams.


Basic Statements

  • All A are B
  • Some A are B
  • No A is B
  • Some A are not B

Important Rules

  • All + All → All
  • Some + All → Some
  • No + All → Some not
  • Some not is always possible

Direct Conclusion Trick

Example:
All A are B
All B are C

Conclusion:
All A are C


Possibility Trick

If definite conclusion is not possible, check for “possibility”.


Exam Level Questions

1. All cats are dogs, all dogs are animals → conclusion?

Answer: All cats are animals

2. Some A are B, all B are C → conclusion?

Answer: Some A are C

3. No A is B, all B are C → conclusion?

Answer: Some A are not C (possible)


Common Mistake

Students try drawing Venn diagrams for every question, wasting time.
