Seating Arrangement – Linear & Circular Tricks

Seating arrangement is one of the most important reasoning topics. Practice structured approach for accuracy.


1. Types of Seating Arrangement

  • Linear Arrangement (Straight line)
  • Circular Arrangement (Circle)
  • Rectangular / Square Arrangement

2. Linear Arrangement

People sit in a row (left to right)

Example:
A sits to the left of B
B sits to the left of C

Arrangement:
A → B → C


3. Circular Arrangement

People sit in a circle facing center or outside

Rules:

  • Facing center → left is clockwise
  • Facing outside → left is anti-clockwise

4. Position-Based Clues

Clues include:

  • Immediate left/right
  • Second to the left
  • Opposite person

5. Table Method (Very Important)

Create a table or diagram and fill step by step

Q1:
A, B, C, D sit in a row. A is left of B, B is left of C. Who is at extreme right?

Solution:
A → B → C → D
Answer = D


Q2:
5 people sit in a circle. A is opposite B. C is to the left of A. Find position of C.

Solution:
Draw circle and place A, then B opposite
Place C accordingly using direction rule


Q3:
In a row of 8 people, A is 3rd from left, B is 2nd from right. How many people between A and B?

Solution:
Total = 8
Positions:
A = 3rd
B = 7th
Between = 3 people
