Reasoning – Inequality Basics (Easy Explanation for Beginners)

Basic reasoning inequality concept

Inequality is one of the easiest topics in reasoning. It simply means comparing values using symbols like greater than and less than.

Basic Symbols

  • A > B → A is greater than B
  • A < B → A is less than B
  • A ≥ B → A is greater than or equal to B
  • A ≤ B → A is less than or equal to B
  • A = B → A is equal to B

Simple Understanding

Think like numbers:

10 > 5 → True
5 < 10 → True

Same logic applies to letters.

Chain Method (Very Important)

Combine all statements into one line.

Example:
A > B > C > D

Now we can say:
A > C ✔
A > D ✔
B > D ✔

Important Rule

  • Same direction → Combine
  • Different direction → Check carefully

Easy Examples

Q1:
A > B > C
→ Is A > C?

Answer: Yes ✔

Q2:
A > B, C > D
→ Is A > D?

Answer: Cannot be determined ❌

Practice Questions

Q1: A > B > C > D → Is A > D?

Q2: A < B < C → Is A < C?

Q3: A > B, C > D → Is B > D?

Answers

Q1: Yes
Q2: Yes
