Reasoning Ability – Coding-Decoding

Coding-Decoding is a scoring topic in reasoning section. Questions are based on patterns, letter shifts, and logic. Regular practice helps solve them quickly.


Types of Coding-Decoding

  • Letter Coding
  • Number Coding
  • Alphanumeric Coding
  • Pattern Coding

Basic Concept

Each letter has a position in the alphabet:

A=1, B=2, C=3, ... Z=26


Important Tricks

1. Letter Shifting

Move letters forward or backward in alphabet.

2. Reverse Position

A=26, B=25, C=24 ... Z=1

3. Pattern Observation

Check difference between letters or numbers.

Example 1:
CAT → DBU
(+1 shift)

Example 2:
DOG → FQI
(+2 shift)
