Quantitative Aptitude – Time, Speed & Distance (Easy Concepts & Tricks)

Speed and distance travel concept

Time, Speed, and Distance (TSD) is based on motion. It helps calculate how far and how fast something moves.

Basic Formula

Distance = Speed × Time

Speed = Distance / Time
Time = Distance / Speed

Easy Example

Question:
Speed = 60 km/h, Time = 2 hours
Distance = ?

Solution:
Distance = 60 × 2 = 120 km ✔

Unit Conversion

1 km/h = 5/18 m/s
1 m/s = 18/5 km/h

Average Speed

Formula:
Average Speed = Total Distance / Total Time

Special Case:
Equal distance → Avg speed = (2xy) / (x + y)

Train Concept

  • Distance = Length of train
  • Crossing → add lengths

Practice Questions

Q1: Speed = 50 km/h, Time = 3h → Distance?

Q2: Distance = 120 km, Speed = 60 km/h → Time?

Q3: Avg speed for 40 & 60 km/h (equal distance)?

Answers

Q1: 150 km
Q2: 2 hours
Q3: 48 km/h

Quick Tricks

  • Use basic formula directly
  • Convert units carefully
  • Use shortcut for average speed

Final Tip

TSD becomes easy with practice. Focus on formulas and avoid calculation mistakes.
