English Grammar – Basic Rules & Examples

Grammar is essential for bank exams. Strong basics help in error detection, sentence improvement, and comprehension.


1. Parts of Speech

  • Noun – Name of person/place/thing
  • Pronoun – Replaces noun
  • Verb – Action word
  • Adjective – Describes noun
  • Adverb – Describes verb
  • Preposition – Shows relation
  • Conjunction – Joins words
  • Interjection – Expresses emotion

2. Subject-Verb Agreement

Subject and verb must agree in number.

Example:
He goes to school ✔
He go to school ✘


3. Tenses

  • Present – She writes
  • Past – She wrote
  • Future – She will write

4. Articles (A, An, The)

  • A – before consonant sound
  • An – before vowel sound
  • The – specific object

Example:
An apple, A book, The sun


5. Prepositions

Used to show relation (in, on, at, under)

Example:
He is in the room

Q1:
He do not like coffee. (Find error)

Solution:
"do" → "does"
Correct: He does not like coffee


Q2:
She has ate food. (Find error)

Solution:
"ate" → "eaten"
Correct: She has eaten food


Q3:
He is senior than me. (Find error)

Solution:
"than" → "to"
Correct: He is senior to me
