What is Voice?

Voice shows whether subject performs or receives the action.

  • Active Voice: Subject does action
  • Passive Voice: Subject receives action

Basic Structure

Active: Subject + Verb + Object

Passive: Object + Helping Verb + V3 + by + Subject


Examples

Active: Ram wrote a letter

Passive: A letter was written by Ram


Tense-wise Rules

Present Simple

Active: She writes a letter

Passive: A letter is written by her


Past Simple

Active: She wrote a letter

Passive: A letter was written by her


Future Simple

Active: She will write a letter

Passive: A letter will be written by her


Important Rules

  • Object becomes subject
  • Use V3 (past participle)
  • Add helping verb (is/was/will be)
  • Use "by" for doer (optional)
