Bank Exam Quantitative Aptitude – Simplification & Approximation (Foundation Level)

Mathematics calculation and problem solving

Simplification and approximation are the most scoring topics in bank exams. These questions test your calculation speed and accuracy.

1. Simplification – Concept

Simplification involves solving mathematical expressions using basic operations.

Operations Order (BODMAS):

  • Brackets
  • Orders (powers)
  • Division and Multiplication
  • Addition and Subtraction

2. Example

20 + 5 × 4 = ?
→ 20 + 20 = 40

100 ÷ 5 × 2 = ?
→ 20 × 2 = 40

3. Approximation

Approximation means rounding numbers to make calculation faster.

Example:
498 ≈ 500
203 ≈ 200

4. Speed Tricks

  • Learn tables (1–25)
  • Memorize squares (1–30)
  • Memorize cubes (1–20)
  • Avoid lengthy calculations

Practice Questions

Q1:
25 × 4 + 10 = ?

Q2:
100 ÷ 5 × 3 = ?

Q3 (Approx):
498 + 203 ≈ ?

Answers

Q1: 110
Q2: 60
