Speed distance concept

🔷 Core Formulas

Speed = Distance / Time

Distance = Speed × Time

Time = Distance / Speed


🔷 Basic Problems

Q1. 60 km in 2 hours

Speed = 60 / 2 = 30 km/hr


Q2. 120 km in 3 hours

= 40 km/hr


Q3. 150 km in 5 hours

= 30 km/hr


Q4. Speed = 60 km/hr, time = 2 hr

Distance = 120 km


Q5. Speed = 80 km/hr, time = 3 hr

= 240 km


🔷 Relative Speed

Q6. Opposite direction (20 + 30)

= 50 km/hr


Q7. Same direction (60 − 40)

= 20 km/hr


Q8. Two trains (40 & 60)

= 100 km/hr


Q9. Same direction 70 & 50

= 20 km/hr


Q10. Opposite 55 & 45

= 100 km/hr


🔷 Train Problems

Q11. Train crosses pole

Time = Length / Speed


Q12. Train crosses platform

Time = (Train + Platform) / Speed


Q13. 100m train, speed 10 m/s

Time = 100/10 = 10 sec


Q14. 120m train + 80m platform

Total = 200

Time = 200/10 = 20 sec


Q15. Two trains 100m each

Total = 200

Q16. Downstream = 20 km/hr

Q17. Upstream = 10 km/hr

Speed in still water = (20+10)/2 = 15

Stream = (20−10)/2 = 5


Q18. Down=30, Up=20

Still = 25

Stream = 5


🔷 Average Speed

Q19. Equal distance

Average = 2xy/(x+y)

Example: 60 & 40

= 4800/100 = 48 km/hr


Q20. Equal time

Average = (x+y)/2

= 50 km/hr
